Kids Heaven Childcare and Learning Center (KHC&LC) is a small-scale childcare and preschool offering full-time and part-time childcare services for children ranging from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. The center is licensed for 34 children. We operate Monday-Friday from 7:00 am - 5:30 pm. We currently have two classroom setting consisting of the Monkey Room and the Dinosaurs Room.

The Monkeys room is divided into two sections; infants (6 weeks to 2 years) and young preschoolers (2's & 3's). The dinosaur room is used for the Pre-K's and in the evening the room is divided to allow our schoolers to participate in our program.

Our mission is to provide a high-quality affordable childcare and education to ALL families throughout the New River Valley including Low-income and Student Families.

OUR GOALS

Our main goal is to provide to the children an inspiring warm, home-like environment where children are encouraged to learn by:

  1. Developing their cognitive, emotional and physical faculties;

  2. Developing their social skills needed to interact with others from within their culture as well as those from diverse cultural background; and

  3. Coordinating with parents in providing us with their child(ren) development at all times.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our childcare believes that each child need to develop him/herself at their own pace. We encourage each child to feel secure and relaxed and to express oneself during the learning period. We very much encourage parents to build a relationship with the staff members to receive feedback on their child(ren) progress at the childcare as well as encourage parents to visit our childcare whenever appropriate and form a bond with us.

A BRIEF HISTORY

The initiation of Kids Heaven Childcare began in Summer 2004 when students families were unable to find affordable summer programs for their children. During the summer time, Kids Heaven Initiators decided to to go for licensing and to become an official childcare and preschool in the area of Blacksburg to help those in need.  A small space safe and appropriate for  a childcare setting in addition to other factors like location between Blacksburg and Christiansburg and affordable rent was located in Southpark Drive and renovation for licensure started to take place in August. In October 2004 part-time childcare services began for 3 times/week with 1 lead teacher and 6 children.

The Center received its licensure for  full-time services in January 2005 for a capacity of 17 children. Beginning May 2005  we expanded to a second room for an additional capacity of 17 children and 2 teachers. The playground area was layered with mulch, fences and outdoor equipments were installed. In addition van transportation is provided, for elementary school children, to and from all of the major elementary schools in Blacksburg.

Our center is known for having a mix of international children from the Asia, Africa and America. The children become exposed to the American culture through the daily interaction with the teachers and teachers get the opportunity to develop their cross-cultural skills.
